May Missionary Update

We started out the month of April with Semana Santa, the week leading up to Easter Sunday, which is definitely more celebrated in Honduras than the States. Many Hondurans celebrate by going to the beach and since the town we live in is a crossroads on the way to the ocean we experienced lots of traffic. I can’t help but think that this time next year, we will probably have just recently started our first church in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Pray that God would bless the rest of our path to that next stage in ministry. Pray that we will make great progress in Spanish. Pray that we would reach some souls for Jesus while we are here in El Progresso.

Sofia has been growing and learning. She sings, “Jesus Loves Me” every day, prays for breakfast every morning, kisses and hugs her baby dolls good night, and tries to sweep the floor with a broom twice her size. The other day, Amber was taking a short nap on the couch and I am pretty sure Sofia was trying to do a C-section on her mom. Sofia had her plastic toy kitchen knife on Amber’s stomach and said she wanted to see Baby.

Speaking of which, please pray for our daughter’s birth at the end of next month. She is healthy and strong, and we pray that she will arrive safely. We live about an hour from a nice private hospital, which is where Amber would prefer to give birth, so pray that Baby girl gives us plenty of warning to get there in time.

I have been a bit under the weather health-wise this month, and have used the time at home to drill myself in lots of Spanish grammar. At a near point in the future I will be scheduling a test to determine whether my Spanish satisfies the requirements for finishing language school, but I will always be learning. Amber’s Spanish studies are going well and God has given her the opportunity to do a weekly Bible study (in Spanish) with a new believer. We’ve been able to host several families from church in our home, and we have enjoyed the fellowship as well as the chance to practice Spanish.

The next major step on our list of goals is starting the residency process. We were unable to start this immediately because of several important documents that were held up in the States when we moved to Honduras. We have a two-week trip planned to the States in May to address those things, and we are hoping to make some major progress in our paper work, so please pray that all goes well both in the States and when we return to Honduras.

It is a blessing to know that you are praying for us. We pray for you as well, and if there is ever something specific you would like us to pray for, please share it with us!

Greetings from Gary and Verna, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints whom we love. Peace be unto you. We wish we could tell you about ALL the exciting things that we’ve experienced here in Grenada, but that would take quite a long time. With the Grenada Bible Project continuing at full force, I heard a Grenadian say, “Grenada will be a step higher because of God’s Word.” As I was doing open air evangelism at the hospital the other day, I noticed several Bibles from the Bible Project in the hands of people. Let’s just say there was a harvest waiting to be harvested. Thirty-two souls received Christ, and several told me to keep sharing the Gospel. Praise the Lord! We went to the prison on Good Friday and preached the Gospel, then gave all the inmates a Bible. As a side note, one does not want to be a prisoner in any country outside of the USA. Believe me. (Wow!) The prison religion coordinator is a strong believer and arranged the meeting. Once again, I gave the Gospel rope illustration. Just before giving it, the coordinator told me about someone else who used the three-rope illustration about three weeks earlier. I prayed and said, “Lord, please use us today to bring in a harvest.” Long story short, we couldn’t count the number that received Christ. I asked the coordinator if the Gospel presentation was different and he said, “Completely different and very effective.” Praise the Lord! On another day we went to the mental ward and there was a huge group there. Yes, some were a bit strange. However, most were mentally able to understand and receive Christ. We sang a few songs that they knew the words to, and some gave a testimony of salvation before we gave the Gospel. Once again, I could not count the large amount who responded with hands raised up signifying that they received Christ. Amen!!! All the schools that we’ve been to include Anglican, Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist, and government schools. They all have been very fruitful. The Lord is showing us that the fields are white unto harvest. Another great thing is that the Jehovah’s Witnesses have not been on the streets like they were before Covid 19 and the ones I see are still wearing a mask. They are practically the only ones wearing a mask. Wow! In closing, I’ve been covering the pulpit at one of three different churches practically every Sunday and in mid-week services. Never a dull moment. We could not do this without your love for missions and lost souls, as is seen by your faithful support and prayers. May the Lord greatly bless you and your families for all that you do in the name of Christ our LORD.
